Sports at Burnside

"All Together Active"At Burnside we begin each academic year with our whole school 'All together active week' . This exciting week highlights the value that we place on not only our pupils' health and fitness, but our families too. During this week children have the opportunity to take part in many sports, working not only with school staff but also specialist coaches. Our Year 5 and 6 pupils also try skiing at a local dry ski slope. Throughout our packed timetable for this week, families are invited into school to keep fit and healthy with their children, taking part in activities including Salsa Marathons, Running Challenges and our famous Wake up Shake Up every morning.

Building on this and our weekly statutory PE lessons,  pupils also take part in festivals and other events, involving children from other schools. Many of these are arranged and supported through the Cramlington Schools Sports Partnership. In order to ensure our statutory obligations our Year 4 children also take part in swimming lessons with specialist teachers at a local pool.

To build on our commitment to ensuring  pupils understand and experience the health and well-being benefits of daily exercise, in November we implemented 'The Daily Mile' . The UK Government's Childhood Obesity strategy has supported this initiative in contributing towards the recommended hour that children should spend taking daily exercise in school. Our pupils really enjoy this and we have seen fitness levels improve.

Through other sporting activities we are proud that in recent years we have raised:

Children’s Cancer Run 2018 - £1924

Children’s Cancer Run 2017 - £731
