At Burnside Primary, we are immensely proud to hold the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Accreditation with Distinction for three consecutive years.

This recognition highlights our whole-school commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and student leadership. Our most recent Eco-Schools evaluation celebrated the remarkable efforts of our pupils, staff, and wider community:

• Energy Awareness & Savings: Through pupil-led monitoring and initiatives like Switch Off Fortnight and our Christmas shutdown, our school community saved almost £500 in energy costs while developing real-world data skills.

• Resilience & Biodiversity: Even when facing setbacks - including vandalism in our nature area and an unexpected sinkhole -our pupils showed incredible perseverance. Together, they actively protect and maintain 5,000m² of natural habitat, using tools like the National Education Nature Park Site Mapper to track positive change.

• Student Leadership: Our Eco Warriors lead the charge through assemblies, campaigns, and peer advocacy, developing lifelong skills in communication, leadership, and environmental action.

• Global Citizenship & Impact: From investigating real-world issues like water pollution in our WaterBlitz project to raising over £9,000 for charitable causes, our pupils consistently demonstrate that their choices can make a meaningful difference locally and globally.

"Your Eco-Schools work has successfully created a culture where sustainability, inclusion and positive action are embedded throughout school life, inspiring pupils to become confident and environmentally conscious global citizens." - Eco-Schools Assessor
