At Burnside Primary School, we believe that every child and adult in our school and community is valued, respected, and important. Our approach to behaviour management is underpinned by the following beliefs:
Developing the Whole Child: We nurture self-discipline, personal responsibility, and respect for authority, empowering children to make positive, informed choices.
Positive Reinforcement & Praise: We believe that praise, encouragement, and overt recognition of good choices are far more effective than punishment. Positive behaviour is held in high esteem and consistently celebrated by all staff.
Fostering High Self-Esteem: Children need to know when they are successful. Building self-esteem drives positive attitudes, personal pride, and exemplary behaviour for learning.
Preventing Bullying & Promoting Kindness: Encouraging kindness and mutual respect builds a safe environment where bullying in any form is strictly challenged and prevented.
Consistency Across the School: Consistency is essential to success. All staff—teaching and non-teaching—apply our positive behaviour policy assertively, fairly, and consistently across every classroom and playground.
Strong Home-School Partnerships: Effective communication and co-operation between home and school are vital in supporting children’s personal and social development.
Equal Access & Inclusion: Every child deserves equal access to an ambitious curriculum within a calm, orderly, and purposeful learning environment.
