The Graduated Approach & Early Identification

We know that children learn in beautifully diverse ways and have distinct developmental timelines. Burnside is fully committed to the early identification of SEND, tracking development right from our two-year-old Budding Explorers and Nursery provisions through to Upper Key Stage 2.

We adopt a rigorous "graduated approach" (Assess, Plan, Do, Review) that acknowledges a continuum of special educational needs. Where necessary, we work proactively with the Local Authority and health services to call upon increasing specialist expertise to advise, support, and eliminate any learning or physical barriers a child may encounter.

Working in Partnership with Families

You, as parents and carers, are heavily involved at every single stage of the journey. We recognise that you are the true experts on your child.

Working collaboratively alongside your child's class teacher and Mrs Corinna Burnip, our school Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO), we will co-produce a personalised Pupil Passport. This plan outlines targeted strategies, individualised adaptations, and success criteria designed to support your child to thrive independently.
