Operation Emcompass

Operation Encompass at Burnside Primary School

At Burnside Primary School, the safety, emotional wellbeing, and happiness of every child are paramount. We participate in Operation Encompass, a national police and education early-intervention safeguarding partnership designed to provide immediate, discreet support to children living in households experiencing domestic abuse.

Our school values be safe, be smart, be kind, guide everything we do, ensuring that every child is supported in a nurturing environment where they can thrive, achieve, and belong.

How Operation Encompass Works

  • Early Information Sharing: When Northumbria Police attend an incident of domestic abuse where a child from our school is present, living in the home, or involved, key details are securely communicated directly to our school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) prior to the start of the next school day.

  • Immediate & Discreet Support: Receiving this information early enables us to put timely, sensitive, and tailored support in place for the child from the moment they arrive at school. This support is entirely focused on the needs and wishes of the pupil, ranging from quiet observation and emotional reassurance to structured nurture interventions.

  • Confidentiality: All shared information is handled with the strictest confidentiality and is only accessed by trained safeguarding personnel.

Safeguarding Support & Enquiries

If you have any questions about Operation Encompass, or if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse and would like confidential advice or support, please speak to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads via Mrs. Ramsey in the school office.
