At Burnside, we believe that the first years of education are the most transformative. Our Nursery is not just a place of care; it is a place of ambition, curiosity, and discovery. We provide a vibrant, expert-led environment where children from their third birthday until school age are empowered to explore the world around them.
"As Headteacher, I am immensely proud of our Early Years provision. We view our Nursery as the 'engine room' of the school—where the essential skills of communication, confidence, and character are first ignited. We are committed to providing every child with an exceptional start, ensuring they are happy, safe, and ready to fly."
Miss Ramsay, Headteacher
"My passion is ensuring that every child’s first experience of school is magical. By overseeing the entire Early Years journey, from our Budding Explorers through to Reception, I ensure a seamless transition for every child. Our team of specialists is dedicated to understanding exactly where your child is in their development and exactly how to help them take their next big step."
Mrs. McCaw, EYFS Manager
We are a large, thriving Nursery, which allows us to offer an unrivalled breadth of experience. However, we maintain a "small school" feel through our Key Worker System.
Expertly Staffed: Every member of our team has undergone specific Early Years training. We aren't just supervisors; we are specialists in child development.
The Power of Space: Our children in main Nursery, benefit from an open-plan learning room and two dedicated outdoor play areas. This "Free-Flow" environment encourages independence and allows children to follow their own interests.
A Gentle Start (Rising 3s): We recognise that our youngest learners sometimes need a quieter space to find their feet. In the Spring and Summer terms, our "Rising 3s" enjoy their own dedicated room and outdoor area, providing a nurturing sanctuary as they begin their journey with us.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, focusing on the "whole child." Through a balance of child-led play and adult-guided activities, we focus on:
Communication & Language: Finding their voice.
Physical Development: Building strength and coordination.
Personal, Social & Emotional Well-being: Making friends and managing feelings.
A Note on Admissions: We are a school-run Nursery, and we handle our own admissions with care. While we love seeing our Nursery children grow into our primary school, please note that a place in our Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in the main school; Reception admissions must be applied for separately via the Local Authority.
