At Burnside Primary School, we believe the world is our classroom. In an increasingly interconnected society, we are dedicated to preparing our children to thrive in a diverse and multi-cultural community.
We want our pupils to understand that difference is something to be celebrated. By learning about people and places from all corners of the globe, our children gain an appreciation for the rich, varied world we live in. We strive to make global learning an exciting journey that fosters curiosity and mutual respect.
We are thrilled to announce that Burnside Primary School has been officially reaccredited with the Full International School Award!
Achieving this status required two years of rigorous work to embed internationalism into our ethos and curriculum. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff and students remained committed to promoting global citizenship and cultural diversity.
Feedback from the British Council: "Many congratulations... It is testament to your whole school commitment to embedding a rich and creative range of international work. Your outstanding achievement is shared and celebrated widely."
Since starting our journey in 2011, we have engaged in a wide variety of collaborative projects that bring the world to Burnside.
School Partnerships: We maintain active links with schools in India, Poland, and Turkey, working together on curriculum-based activities.
Resource Sharing: We exchange educational practices and artwork (such as our African Art projects) with partners overseas.
eTwinning: Our students have participated in digital projects like the "Christmas Choir" and card exchanges with schools across Europe.
Our international work is woven into the fabric of daily school life through:
Modern Languages: A strong focus on learning French across the school.
British Values: Teaching the importance of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect for all faiths and beliefs.
Global Awareness: Highlighting environmental and social issues through Geography and PSHE lessons.
Creative Projects: Engaging initiatives such as the "Raving Readers" project to explore international literature.
