While every day at Burnside Nursery brings new adventures shaped by the children's own interests, a consistent daily rhythm helps our three and four-year-olds feel secure, confident, and independent.
A Note for Parents: This timetable is an example of our typical daily flow. We remain beautifully flexible to accommodate the children's energy levels, spontaneous learning opportunities, and the changing seasons.
08:50 am | The Gates Open & The Soft Start. We believe a calm start sets the tone for a wonderful day. Our gates open early so you can walk your child to the nursery without feeling rushed. Children find their pegs, hang up their coats, and settle straight into a "soft start" activity in our open-plan rooms, helping them transition happily from home to school.
09:15 am | Key Worker Group Time & Registration. The children gather in their small, familiar Key Worker groups. We take the register, sing our welcome songs, count who is here, and talk about the exciting learning "invitations" on offer for the day. This time is crucial for building early communication and vocabulary.
09:30 am | Free-Flow Exploration & Rolling Snack. The doors open and the adventure begins! Children have the independence to choose where they want to learn, moving freely between our two large indoor rooms and our expansive outdoor play areas. During this time, our expert staff lead focussed small-group activities, whilst other children explore independently. We also operate a "rolling snack" station, where children can independently access a healthy piece of fruit and a drink of milk or water when they feel hungry.
11:35 am | Tidy-Up Time, Story, and Rhymes. We work as a team to tidy our spaces, learning to care for our nursery environment. We then gather together for a high-quality story session, poetry basket, or interactive singing time.
12:00 pm | Lunch & Home-Time for 15-Hour Children. This marks the end of the session for our morning-only friends, who are collected at the main gates. Our full-day children sit down together to enjoy a nourishing lunch, practising their table manners and independence with cutlery.
12:45 pm | Quiet Time & Mindfulness After a busy morning, our full-day children need a chance to recharge. We dim the lights for a period of relaxation, soft music, mindfulness, or sensory stories. For children who still require a midday nap, comfortable rest spaces are provided.
01:15 pm | Afternoon Free-Flow & Active Play The energy lifts as free-flow access opens up again. The afternoon often takes on a highly creative and physical focus. Children might be found designing masterpieces in the Creative Studio, building large-scale structures outdoors, or participating in music, dance, and physical movement programmes to build coordination.
02:40 pm | Group Reflection & Song We gather back into our groups to celebrate the "wow" moments of the day. The children share what they have made, what they enjoyed, and listen to an end-of-day story.
02:50 pm | Gates Open for Collection Our gates open at 2:50 pm, ready for a prompt 3:00 pm finish, as we say goodbye to our nursery friends for another day.
