  • Reminder - We are a nut free school

    Tue 19 Nov 2024 Headteacher

Please be reminded that we are a nut free school.
This policy applies to our school caterers Creative Management, as well as packed lunches and snack boxes prepared at home.

'Nut' refers to tree nuts and peanuts but for some children, allergies can extend to sesame seeds, sesame oils and pine nuts. We ask that you take care when selecting items for your child’s packed lunch and snack boxes and not include nuts or items that contain nuts e.g. peanut butter, Nutella chocolate spread and granola bars containing nuts.

  • The World's Largest Lesson - Global Goals

    Fri 15 Nov 2024 Headteacher

🌍✨ Burnside is thrilled to be taking part in the World’s Largest Lesson!

In 2015, leaders from all 193 countries of the United Nations came together to create the Global Goals—an ambitious, world-changing plan to make the future brighter for everyone. At Burnside, we believe that by teaching our students about these goals, we can inspire them to make a real difference and show them that a better world is possible.

This year, the Global Goals are coming to life across every year group in Key Stage 2 at Burnside. Here's how:

    • Year 3 will focus on

Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being—discovering how to live healthier lives.

Goal 4: Quality Education—recognizing the power of learning for everyone.

Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy—learning about sustainable energy solutions.

    • Year 4  will explore

Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation—understanding the need for clean water for all.

Goal 1: No Poverty—exploring how we can help create a world without poverty.

Goal 13: Climate Action—taking steps to fight climate change.

    • Year 5  will focus on

Goal 2: Zero Hunger—learning about the importance of food for all.

Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities—fighting inequality in all forms.

Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

    • Year 6 will focus on

Goal 5: Gender Equality—championing fairness and equality for all genders.

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production—learning how to protect our planet by using resources wisely. Goal

15: Life on Land—taking action to protect our ecosystems and wildlife.

Together, we are shaping a generation that understands the power of these goals and is ready to make a lasting impact on the world.

  • Charitable Giving

    Fri 15 Nov 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Each year, our pupils select three charities to support: one local, one national, and one global, allowing us to make a positive impact at multiple levels. The three charities we will be supporting this year are Cramlington Food Bank (local), Show Racism the Red Card (national), and WWF (global).

Our first two charity events took place just before half term. We linked one to our Harvest Festival celebrations and the United Nations Global Goal number 2 - Zero Hunger learning about the importance of food for all. The Food Bank has asked me to pass on their gratitude for the volume of food donations received.

The second event was our support for Show Racism the Red Card, where we raised £483, and the children in Year 5 benefited from participating in workshops. This links closely with Global Goal 10, reduced inequalities. Learning about the importance of fighting inequality in all forms.

Through curriculum lessons, pupils will continue to explore the importance of charitable giving and how it connects to our core value of kindness.

Thank you for your continued support.
