  • COVID 19 UPDATE

    Mon 24 Jan 2022 Headteacher

    We currently have 17 children who have tested positive with COVID 19 and 5 members of staff (teaching/support staff).

    We have had to use members of our skilled support team and supply teachers to cover classes as a  result of teacher absence. Our teacher supply agencies tell us that they have no available staff for this week. If their staff become available, we have first refusal.

    Infection now may partly reflect more testing. Nevertheless, we must all continue to take steps to reduce the risk of infection.

    Parents please continue to:

    • test your child as much as you can using a lateral flow test, especially in classes where cases are rising;
    • be extra cautious and alert to any changes in your child's health.
      • If you see symptoms of COVID-19, stop sending your child to school and check with a COVID test;
    • wash hands as soon as pupils arrive at home after school.

    We continue to work under the 'amber' control measures to reduce the risk of infection spreading and classes being disrupted.

  • Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

    Mon 24 Jan 2022

    As you may be aware, an extra bank holiday has been announced for 3 June 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

    As on previous similar occasions (eg the 2012 Diamond Jubilee or 2011 Royal Wedding), the DfE has therefore amended the Education (School Day and School Year) (England) Regulations to reduce the school year 2021/22 for maintained schools to a minimum of 189 days, in order to allow schools to close that day or on another day.

    Schools not already on half term break on the day of the bank holiday will be able to close that day. Most schools will, however, be on half term at the time of the bank holiday. This change to the Regulations will allow maintained schools to be able to close at another time to give staff and students an extra day off.

    The Cramlington Partnership of schools have put forward the 27th June 2022 to be taken as the extra day off. I have updated the calendar on the school website to reflect this.

  • Burnside Multi Skills Finalists!!!

    Fri 21 Jan 2022 Headteacher

    The children from Year 5K were selected not only to represent Burnside but the whole of Cramlington and Seaton Valley in the School Games Multi Skills Challenge. This was a  great achievement and both Mr Kindley and Miss Smith were extremely proud of them. The children were selected as they were the best overall of the 13 teams that competed.

    Today they competed against the best schools in the whole of Northumberland and were placed 3rd and will all achieve Bronze certificates to celebrate and mark their achievement.

    Not only were the children superb with their multi skills but they were exceptional with their team spirit, supporting each other and cheering each other on.

    We appointed Miss Smith at Burnside in September as a PE specialist and this achievement is testament to the wonderful contribution she has already made to the teaching of PE in our school.

  • Queen's Jubilee Pudding

    Fri 21 Jan 2022 Headteacher

     As many of you will know, it is Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee this year and Fortnum & Masons have organised a competition to design a commemorative pudding to recognise  70 years on the throne.

    We thought the children would enjoy the opportunity to get involved by designing and possibly making or baking a pudding of their own at home, sharing photographs of what they have done with their teacher and children in their class.

    We would love to see the children's designs, recipes, photographs and/or evaluations throughout this Spring Term.

    If the children wish to enter Fortnum & Mason's competition too, the full details are on their website

    https://www.fortnumandmason.com/platinum-pudding

    and entries for that particular competition must be submitted by the 4th February. Ready, get set.... bake - and enjoy!
