  • Meditation - peace and love

    Mon 28 Feb 2022 Headteacher

Tomorrow, 1st March 2022, our school will come together to show our support for the people of the Ukraine.

We will pause for a few moments at 2pm and listen to a lovely guided meditation - all about love and kindness.

We will imagine our loving thoughts as ripples on a lake's surface. When we think kind thoughts, they find their way out into the world.

We hope to be able to share the guided meditation with you on our website so you can also share at home.

  • Help with how to talk to children about Russia's invasion of Ukraine

    Mon 28 Feb 2022 Headteacher

Help for teachers and families to talk to pupils about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and how to help them avoid misinformation

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is distressing and concerning, and we understand children and young people may have questions or be seeking reassurance. Our Burnside staff team are well placed to talk to pupils about the images they are seeing and help them navigate the concepts and issues this brings up but we’re also aware that it raises issues we have never have encountered before.

Below is a link from the Government with useful advice and resources for schools and teachers – but they may also be useful for families and young people themselves.

  • World Book Day Thursday 3rd March

    Mon 14 Feb 2022 Headteacher

On Thursday 3rd March, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day – with the message for all children ‘you are a reader‘! It will be filled with lots of exciting, celebratory ways to promote reading for pleasure.

Children are invited to dress up as their favourite story character for the day. This is optional and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Home made costumes are the best!

If you have any unwanted costumes that you may have bought previously, we will accept any donations into the school office to support those who may need them.

World Book Day Shoe Box Competition

We are running a Story Scene Shoe Box Competition. Design your own story scene from one of your favourite books, in a shoe box. Entries for the competition are to be brought into school on Friday 4th March. We look forward to seeing your wonderful, imaginative creations.  Winner from each year group to receive a book voucher.

  • Scholastic Book Fair

    Mon 14 Feb 2022 Headteacher

The Scholastic book fair will be in school Monday 28th Feb- Friday 4th March.  Children will all have the opportunity to visit the book fair in school time. They will be given the option to write down a wish list to bring home so you can decide together what book may be appropriate to buy. We will send flyers home for you to view.

All payments can be made online and once proof of payment has been received children will be able to collect the book from the fair. The Scholastic organisers will bring additional copies of books that sell out when they collect the fair the following week. Details for how to make online payments will be shared with you.

School earn commission on the money raised to use towards buying books for school. We have been very fortunate during previous book fairs to raise over £1000 in commission to aid us in enhancing our reading areas in school, something we do very well here at Burnside.
