  • Queen's Platinum Jubilee Year group lunch 27th May

    Thu 28 Apr 2022

Burnside Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Lunch / Picnic

    Friday 27th May

    Nursery to Year 6

To kick off the Jubilee holiday, children are invited to bring in a jubilee themed packed lunch to eat at lunchtime on 27th May.

Leading up to the 27th May children who bring in their own packed lunch will be given their own cardboard Union Flag lunchbox to bring in a packed lunch on the day. Please just provide a short note to the class teacher requesting a box. Children who are on school dinners will have their packed lunch presented in the same Union Flag lunchbox.

On the day children can add Union Flag based items or wear red, white and blue clothing ( a non uniform day).

Weather permitting we will eat our lunch outdoors and play music to get into the spirit of the day.

  • After School and Holiday Club

    Thu 28 Apr 2022

Our After School and Holiday Club has now been running for 4 years. During this time it has gone from strength to strength and the number of children using it has surpassed all projections I initially made in my business plan. I would like to thank you enormously for your support.

Mrs Williams supports me in leading this provision in addition to our responsibilities within school. We are often asked how/why we do it? The answer is very easy, we love it and know it makes a difference to our families and the children.

We have a wonderful team working for us in the club and are very grateful.

In the past we have tried to be as accommodating as possible and have taken bookings at very short notice - sometimes verbally and sometimes via a last minute telephone call. Unfortunately, as numbers have grown this is going to be increasingly impossible as we need to be able to plan staffing ratios and ensure learning/play resources are available for the number of children booked in.

To guarantee your child's place you must book in advance via the School Money App. I acknowledge that sometimes families are waiting for pay day to make bookings, hence the last minute bookings.

My aim when I set this business up was to support our families and this has not changed. If you would like to guarantee your booking but are unable to make payment we will work with you as best we can. Should you be in this position please telephone Mrs Lemin, our School Business Manager 01670 736 052 and I am confident we will be able to support you.

  • Volunteers Needed

    Thu 28 Apr 2022

As life in school begins to return to "normal"  we would love to welcome parent volunteers to help support us. As many of you have seen during the pandemic we have develop many of our outdoor spaces and created amazing learning environments for the children.

The plants to attract wildlife and allow us to use the space to enrich our science curriculum are beginning to grow which is great. However, the weeds growing equally as fast!!!

We are looking for people to help who would be able to help us maintain our wonderful outdoor spaces. You'll be fully briefed and you might even get a free coffees as you work!

If you feel you may be able to help us please telephone the school office and ask to speak with Mrs McMullen.

  • National assessment tests and summer term assessments

    Thu 28 Apr 2022

During the summer term, children in Years 1, 2, 4 and 6 will be taking part in national tests.

Useful parent guides produced by the DfE can be found here:

Outcomes of these assessments will be published to parents alongside the annual report in July.

  • Summer Uniform

    Thu 28 Apr 2022

As we are moving into the warmer weather children can wear the optional summer school uniform. This includes shorts or red & white gingham style summer dresses.

Children should continue to wear plain, black school shoes. Trainers  only be worn on PE or outdoor learning  days.

If your child is currently wearing trainers instead of school shoes, please make sure their next pair of shoes for school are plain, black school shoes.

Please note that you do not need to purchased uniform with a logo as we realise these incur additional costs. Items from supermarkets/department stores offer exceptional value and are more than acceptable.

Children with long hair (below the shoulders) should wear it tied back. Hair accessories should be in line with school colours-  red, black or white and small in size. Hairstyles with shaved in patterns are very creative but are best kept for school holiday periods.

  • Living with COVID

    Thu 07 Apr 2022

Government guidance sets out changes to how schools will live and work with COVID-19:

    • remote learning no longer required;
    • children who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can come back to school when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend;
    • children with a positive COVID-19 test result should stay at home for 3 days.

Pupils who stay at home because they are unwell need time to rest and recover and as such no work will be send home.

If we close a class, year group or the whole school for any reason, including 'snow days' we will return to remote learning for pupils at home while we are closed.

  • School Meal Prices

    Thu 07 Apr 2022

Having recently written a piece about our intention to support families with the rising cost of living by avoiding asking parents/carers to purchase branded clothing etc.

I received notification from Creative Management Ltd, our school meal provider, of a price increase from  May 2022.

However, I shared with them my pledge to support our Burnside families in terms of avoiding additional financial pressures wherever possible.  After a discussion they have kindly agreed to support me in honoring this pledge and the cost of school meals will remain £2.10 for the remainder of this academic year.

In September, the cost of meals will rise to £2.30 which will continue to be cheaper than many other schools.

I would like to thank Creative management Limited for their support.

  • Easter Display

    Wed 06 Apr 2022 Headteacher

Our children have produced some amazing Easter Art work which is on display in the window at the Hub in Cramlington

(located next to Condordia Leisure Centre).

The art work was co ordinated by our specialist Art Teacher Mrs Tweddle, and every class in the school worked extremely hard to produce fabulous pieces of work.

I am very proud of the work the children have produced. It showcases our commitment to the Art Curriculum at Burnside. I  would encourage you to take your children to have a look and let us know what you think.
