  • Polite Reminder - Drop of and collection times

    Wed 26 Apr 2023

Our staff are always happy to help and listen to parents and carers. However, we would like to remind you that at the beginning of the school day particularly, that the staff need to welcome all of the children into the classroom and ensure lessons start promptly.

We have received a number of complaints from parents who report they have waited in line outside of the classroom for prolonged periods of time due to the fact other parents are taking too much of the teachers time.

Should you have information that you would like your child's class teacher to know, please liaise with the staff in the school office who will pass on the information and get back to you with any responses required from the teacher.

Please be assured that the staff in the school office treat information in the same confidence as the rest of the staff.

  • King Charles III Coronation Colour Run Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

    Wed 26 Apr 2023

To celebrate King Charles III Coronation and make the event a day to remember for our children at Burnside Primary School, we are hosting a school Colour Run for all pupils from Year 1 to Year 6.

The Colour Run will take place on Friday 5th May.

The children will complete a route around school, whilst they are running they will pass colour stations where they will run through a colour cloud of red, white and blue powder.

It would be good if the children could wear an OLD white t-shirt and OLD leggings/ joggers/shorts and OLD shoes or trainers for the event. The powdered paint has a potential to stain clothes so please do not wear anything which is valuable or sentimental.

During the Colour Run there will be colour powder in the air, so it is important that all children MUST wear sunglasses during this event. Please can you send a pair of sunglasses into school for this event with your child.

We want to create a memorable occasion for our children so they can recall the historic event of King Charles III Coronation. If you do not wish your child to participate please inform the school office.

Thank you in advance for your support

  • Monthly Drop In Clinic with our SENDCO

    Wed 19 Apr 2023

Many of you already know our school SENDCO Mrs Burnip. In addition to her duties as SENDCO Mrs Burnip is also a full time class teacher within Year 3.

    Since COVID the volume of parents wishing to speak with Mrs. Burnip has dramatically increased and parents are increasingly concerned about;

    • Mental Health
    • Resilience
    • Anxiety
    • Parenting skills
    • Behaviour at home
    • Rewards and Consequence Strategies
    • How to establish routines at home

It is now become almost impossible for Mrs Burnip to return all the calls and emails whilst she has her class to teacher. She often also finds herself offering the same advice to many individuals.

In order to continue to ensure parents needing support with general concerns similar to those outlined above, Mrs Burnip will be holding a monthly clinic. On occasions she may also invite a guest speakers to support parents.

The first monthly clinic will be held on Friday 5th May at 9am - 10am.

This is the ideal opportunity to come and speak with Mrs Burnip and meet other parents who may have similar worries to your own and who also may be able to share tips and advice.

Please note that requests to speak with Mrs Burnip will be triaged by the reception team and they will make a note to inform Mrs Burnip you will be attending the clinic and what you may wish to discuss in order that she may have appropriate information available for you.

NB Urgent cases will be responded to with 5 working days

  • Risk of further industrial action

    Tue 18 Apr 2023

Talks between teacher unions and the government ended at the end of March. Union leaders are recommending that their members reject the government's offer. There is a risk of further industrial action which could mean the school is forced to close.

The National Education Union (NEU) has announced another two potential strike days in England. Any action depends on the views of union members. The next two days of strike action in England will be:

    • Thursday 27th April,
    • Tuesday 2nd May.

Parents may wish to make contingency arrangements in the event of strike action and the school being closed or partially closed.
