  Well done everyone, our Cake Sale last week raised £394 for Make A Wish Foundation.

  Not only did we raise lots of money for a great charity but the sheer delight and excitement from the children as they selected a cake and ate it with their friends was simply wonderful!!!

  Congratulations to the boys and girls from Year 4 that took part in the football competition at Cramlington Learning Village on Wednesday.

  The children were brilliant and worked exceptionally hard, showing great teamwork and determination.

  They showed super sportsmanship throughout and both teams came away with a well deserved win.

  They didn’t lose a single match and should be very proud of themselves, I know all of the staff are immensely proud. Well done everyone!

  Children will come into school with their current teacher and be registered in the normal way. We will start the morning with an assembly and the children will leave the assembly with their new class teacher. After lunch the children will return to their current teacher.

  Parent feedback about home learning at Burnside has always been mixed. Some believe the school sets too much, others too little. We are working to adapt our policy to maintain high-engagement in reading/phonics, Reading PLUS and Times Tables Rockstars and ensure that any other additional tasks are beneficial.

  Top education researchers tell us that homework has little impact for primary age pupils, unless it requires children to rehearse and practise.

  On Wednesday 21st June we were delighted to welcome Chris Duke, the author of ‘Lucy’s  Blue Day’ to Burnside. Chris had travelled from Scotland to share his
  life experiences with us in the morning and read his book.

  
  Children from Year 1 up to Year 6 listened to Chris speak about how and why he became an author in our assembly time. Our children listened attentively and asked some amazing questions!

  Chris said, “I have visited many schools throughout the U.K. and Burnside is oneof the BEST I have come across!!!

  I can tell that the children are very thoughtful and caring”.
  Chris was absolutely delighted with our children’s enthusiasm throughout the assembly and he could see the enjoyment on all of their faces.

  
  Chris had to travel to Birmingham after our assembly but he made some time to visit Reception where he also read ‘Lucy’s Blue Day’.
  We are so pleased that Chris had taken some time to come and visit us and we are thankful to Rachael Beattie for her help in contacting him.

  As part of our wellbeing curriculum, we are very excited to have #1

  Bestselling Author, Chris Duke, visiting us to talk about his book, “Lucy’s Blue Day”.

  Chris wrote the book to help children understand their emotions and to encourage mental health awareness. It has received positive comments from Stephen Fry, Dr. Ranj, and Lorraine Kelly, describing the book as “charming and well needed in today’s society.”

  It is accessible for all ages from pre-school through Primary and secondary.

  Chris will be talking about the book and his journey and doing a book signing on the day.

  Chris’s visit is free for the school however funded through book sales.

  We have been overwhelmed with people's generosity and support. Our prize list for the raffle includes

  The raffle tickets are at the printers and we will be issuing every child with tickets next week. Should you be able to sell more the school office will be delighted to supply these. 

   

  If you are unable to sell your tickets please return them to school.

   

  I have asked each year group to come up with ideas as to  how we should spend the money we raise.  I can't wait to hear the children's suggestions next week, from their initial ideas I know we are going to have to work hard to raise lots of money as they has some HUGE projects in mind!!
