Burnside Primary School and Nursery, Northumbrian Road, Cramlington, NE23 1XZ
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly newsletter, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
At Burnside Primary School our children are proud to be members of our school and wear our uniform. The uniform has been designed to be practical for a primary school while reflecting the high standards expected at school – it is to be worn with pride at all times.
We feel that it is important that children learn to dress smartly and appropriately. They grow up at Burnside understanding that most secondary schools and later in life, businesses, require smart, professional dress.
We look to parents to work with the school to ensure that children come to school always maintaining a high standard of dress and with at least a minimum of the correct colours in their clothing.
We value learning so highly that we do not send children home to change. However, we hope that we do not have to deal with uniform transgressions.
Judgements about acceptability of uniform and appearance can only be made by school staff and ultimately the Head Teacher.
All children are expected to wear uniform:
Optional items:
in summer, from the start of the Summer term until Autumn half-term, red & white gingham style summer dresses may also be worn;
To allow outdoor play to take place in wet weather, pupils are expected to have suitable warm and waterproof clothing :
Branded and/or designer items of clothing are not to be worn.
NO earrings allowed.
No elaborate hair style
Sensible school shoes
PE kit / 'uniform' is worn for the whole day on a child's allocated PE day. These arrangements minimise lost property and maximise time taking part in sport and exercise rather than changing kit. PE uniform to be worn to school: (NO football kits)

Northumberland libraries are very excited to announce the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge ‘Ready, Set, Read’.
This year’s challenge is focused on reading, sport and play and aims to keep children’s minds and bodies active over the summer break, empowering young people to forge new connections with others and unleash the power of play, sport and physical activity through reading.
The Summer Reading Challenge is an annual event aimed at 4-11 year olds. Children are encouraged to read six (or more) books of their choice during the summer holidays with collectable incentives and rewards, plus a medal and certificate for every child who completes the Challenge.
Michelle Watson from Cramlington library came into school today to explain the Summer Reading Challenge to children. Please follow the link to read more about this wonderful challenge or visit any of the local libraries.

Happy Summer Reading everyone!

BURNSIDE SUMMER 2023 RAFFLE
WINNERS LIST
I would like to thank EVERYONE for their amazing support which helped us raise £4600 for school funds!!!!!
Without the support of the companies and businesses who donated the prizes none of this would be possible. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
At the coffee morning I read a list of some of the suggestions the children made as to how we spend the money. The ideas included;
Although all of the above sound great, we have decided that the majority of the money raised will be used to buy extra Laptops/Tablets and we will explore the cost of extending the jungle gym on the playground.
We will be contacting all the winners by telephone to inform them of their good fortune. Or you can check your tickets against the ticket numbers below. Prizes can be collected from the school office.
Once again, thank you
Jane Ramsay

Free School Meals Eligibility Checker
Many of you may have heard in the news that from September, ALL primary aged pupils in LONDON are eligible for free school lunches.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has provided the funding to schools as an emergency cost of living support measure for parents.
At the moment in the UK if you have children at a state school in reception, year 1 or year 2 they are entitled to free school meals regardless of your household income. Should this be offer be rolled out the the rest of the country, which I hope it is, I will let you know IMMEDIATELY.
The process of folding the returned raffle ticket counter foils has now begun!!!
If you have any tickets to submit for the draw which takes place at our coffee morning on Monday, please make sure they are returned to the school office BEFORE 9am on Monday to allow us the opportunity to fold and enter them into the draw.
The coffee morning starts at 9am and the raffle is scheduled to start to be drawn at 9.30am. Everyone is welcome so please feel to bring along friends and family.
Look forward to seeing you on Monday and a HUGE HUGE HUGE thank you for all your support in selling so many tickets!
